Steady, unblinking gaze at a fixed point
How to
Sit in dim light with a candle flame (or any small fixed point) at eye level, about arm's length away. Gaze steadily at it without straining, blinking as little as comfortable, until your eyes naturally begin to water. Then close your eyes and rest.
Benefits
- A classical yogic concentration practice built around steady gazing
- Trains sustained, still focus — the opposite skill from constant scanning
- Often used as a calming close to an eye-care routine
Practice
Gaze for 30-60 seconds, then close your eyes and rest for at least that long before opening them.
