Standing Hamstring Stretch

Hamstring release, elevated leg

Legs hamstrings

How to

Rest one heel on a low, stable surface (a step or sturdy chair) with the leg straight. Keeping your back flat, hinge forward from the hips rather than rounding the spine, until a stretch is felt behind the thigh.

Benefits

  • Targets the hamstrings more directly than a seated fold for some people
  • Useful before or after activities involving running or kicking
  • Adjustable intensity just by changing the height of the surface

Practice

Hold 20-30 seconds per side, keeping the standing leg's knee soft rather than locked.
