Genital Touch, No Goal

Sensate Focus, Stage 2

Sensate focus

How to

Once Stage 1 feels comfortable over several sessions, extend the same unhurried, no-goal touch to include the genitals — still without any expectation of arousal or a particular outcome.

Benefits

  • Extends the same anxiety-reducing structure to more sensitive touch
  • Widely used in sex therapy for concerns like performance anxiety and low desire
  • Keeps communication, not performance, as the shared focus

Practice

This stage builds on Stage 1 — there's no rush to get here, and going back a stage is a normal part of the process, not a setback.
